Not divorced, but separated for 5 years. He owes child support. I have never received any nor pushed for it. He is unemployed. We are on good terms and this year I figured since we still married (but with others) we could file taxes together still (not the smartest idea in hindsight). He had no income, but claiming married raised it about $400. So basically all the money coming from taxes was from ME. Well, the Attorney General took MY taxes (over $5000). Okay so I thought I’d just get it later as child support. WRONG. They are keeping the money for debts owed (Medicaid, his retro payment, etc…) So here I am to this day I have never received child support and now I’m even broker and out my taxes. How do I fight this? It was not his income, mine! We are not back together, none of this was explained to us. I just wanted him to pay for kids not that we would owe the atty general also. Nothing explained at time and can’t get answers from them. Can’t really afford a lawyer especially now. We would have been better working it out together. They treating me like the bad one. What good does it do to ask for child support and how do we get out of it? How do I get my money? How can they do this?

What are some general rules of thumb for guessing whether you will be subject to the Alternative Minimum Tax?
I want to know if there are certain behaviors to avoid in the coming years to make sure I do not expose myself to the AMT.
Should I spread any capital gains over time, so they don’t accumulate in a single year?
Would a spouse going back to work make us more susceptible to the AMT?
Can a Rule 11 Agreement stand up against the Attorney General?
The man and women attorneys signed the Rule 11 Agreement to settle a child support arrearage of 95,000.00 for 25,000.00 and all future child support arrearages. The agreement also stated that the parties futher agree that all future child support would be $150.00 per month. The man made the $150.00 dallar payments to a child support division in the same area that these preceedings took place in.He was told to do so by his lawyer.Over the years the man was makeing the $150.00 payments where he was told to do so and while he was doing that the Attorney General started garnishing his check from his place of employment. The man was now sending more than double what was agreed. The man’s income tax’s were also taken by the Attorney General.A financial report from the AG’s office some years back shows that the man has more than overpaid per the Rule 11 Agreement. Now seven years later the AG has posted a levy on the mans bank and says the man now owes more than $180,000.00 in back child support
If i claim my live in boyfriend as a dependent, will the attorney general take his owed child support from me?
b/f did not work at all last year!! so he cant claim taxes, and he owes back child support for 2 other kids, so if i claim him as a dependent then will they take my income taxes to pay for his owed back child support?
I have a child support/tax question. I live in TX and my child support case was thru the TX Attorney General.?
My daughter’s father is in arrears, therefore, the state intercepts his income tax returns. This year, he says he is going to fill out a form so he can get half of it. Is there such form? Can he do this? He has no problems getting by, as he claims. I, on the other hand, am a single mother, in school full time, work part time, am about to get another part time job, and have no car. I think my daughter and I need it more. BTW, I encourage him every chance I get for him to see her more. She calls him almost everyday, I tell him how much she asks about him, and talks about him, and includes him in her “parties” she has all the time. She’s only 3 and she is way too aware of what’s going on, or what’s not. He spends his money on his gf and her kids. He doesn’t need my intended money to care for her to use on them as well.
He is not married to this gf, he is, though, married to his first wife from like 15 years ago. I didn’t find out about this until we were broken up for about a year or so. I never asked specifically if they were divorced, but I used common logic and assumed they were. Common logic doesn’t apply with him. Anyhoo, I invite him to everything she does and participates in, tell him all the cute stuff she does and needs to see and he says he’s busy. The little time he spends with her he takes her to Arby’s or McDonald’s or to play with his gf’s daughter. I’m not criticicizing what he does with her, I just wish he would do it more, and I tell him so all the time. She needs him so bad right now and she doesn’t understand why he is not here. She’s only 3.
attorney general of texas?
According to what I am finding out, our local government in the city I live is doing and spending tax payers monies illegally. Can the office of the attorney general help with this or is this an area for the Texas Rangers to help us?
Can the state attorney general be sued for mistaken identity?
I am being harrassed for child support for a child I do not have. They want to garnish wages, income tax withholdings, property leins and even maybe criminal charges. There is no proof of paternity. I never signed any birth certificate or ever even been to court. I do not even know the custodial person. I have already sent a mistaken identity form, certified mail, return receipt requested. Each month the arrears accrue interest. I’m at $10,000 now. I have been reported to the IRS and the FTB. Anyone know anything about this? HELP!!!
LLC vs. General Corp for one-owner small business (more)?
I have gotten conflicting ideas on which is better. One of the advisors was a tax-attorney friend of my MIL’s who gave me some free advice, so I don’t want to bombard her with questions. The other came from an incorporation service that I’ve contacted about arranging the incorporation for me.
The TA told me that an LLC would require, for the life of the LLC, a taxation rate equal to that of my personal tax rate, while a GC would have a tax rate of 15%. However, the GC would also require meetings of the “shareholders” (me) – bringing about the obvious questions of: how do I hold a meeting with myself?
I’m confused, really. I like the “tax advantage” of a straight 15%, given that if this biz takes off I may well end up in a tax bracket higher than that. However, the corporation agent mentioned something about ending up being taxed twice if I choose the GC option – he was very brusque with me and kind of made me feel like I was bothering him, so I thought I’d check w/you guys.
Does anyone know if it is legal for the Texas Attorney General office to hold lump sum payments?
My ex- made a lump-sum payment of child support through the Texas Attorney Generals office and they are holding the money and sending the monthly amounts due? I don’t understand why they don’t send the money to the parent that is caring for the child? How can they hold the money and gain interest off it? Is this legal????????? Someone who knows anything please, Help???? It is not fair.
A few general Income Tax Questions…?
I was married in April 06 so its my understanding that my wife and I would benefit most from filing our income taxes jointly. We both work full time jobs, but in addition to my full time job, I am also an independent contractor selling a little real estate here & there. (Only 2 sales in 2006 for a total of about $2800 in commission.) But being an independent contractor, I am allowed to write some things off that pertain to my business such as fees paid, marketing, cell phone, etc…
What do I claim my real estate income as & if it’s not my primary job, am I still eligible for the write-offs?
Also, where can I find a list of general things that can be written off or deducted such as medical costs and whatnot? We want to make sure we get as much as we can back, but I’m concerned I could miss some things.
Any help is greatly appreciated, but anyone that actually walks me through it step by step will get best answer. I’ve never filed myself before so I’m a bit weary. Thanks!

Should Obama select a 3-time felon as Attorney General to balance Geitner’s tax evasion?
Wouldn’t that help cast Geitner in a better light?
Dream,
He knew! So, yes, it’s evasion.
Peyton,
you’re fast. Congrats.
Attorney General, Tax relief, walking away from mortgage?
I have been working for a small company for the last 6 months, tying to fix the last 4 years of tax issues. The previous bookkeeper worked there for 15 years the last 4 years were not great, she never filed or paid sales and use tax, I did all the filing and of course being that 4 years of no payments it just about doubled the amount owed. He owes about 125,000.00 in back taxes. He knows its his fault he should have checked her work. The state was at his house last week and took his work truck. They also said they sent everything to attorney general office. I called them and they are willing to set up payment plan which is nice. The tax man said if he walks away from is mortgage, and closed his business they would shelve the file and not ask for any money until he got back on his feet..He worried about the house but The house has tax liens on it. I’m stuck in the middle, He has been to a few lawyers who don’t want to help because it state taxes..any advice would be nice..
I dont think I am responsible to fix his problem, but he came to me for some kind of help..
